ARTIST STATEMENT

My work explores the shifting relationship between memory, place and identity. Raised in the quiet of rural Minnesota and now based in Denver, I’m drawn to the in-between space created by leaving home while still carrying it with you. That duality of nearness and distance forms the emotional foundation of my practice.

I approach painting as a way of tracing memory as it moves. Much of what I make is built from softened edges, gentle tones and familiar shapes that feel half-remembered. I think of memories as film stills: flickering, blurred, and altered each time they resurface. My work attempts to hold that quality the same way certain moments feel vivid and others dissolve, the way place can live inside us long after we’ve left it.

Color is my way of storytelling. I use it to describe emotional distance, proximity, longing or comfort. Landscapes and figures often appear abstracted or incomplete, because I’m interested in what happens between clarity and disappearance — the same way a memory becomes something new each time it’s recalled.

My paintings sit at the intersection of the rural and the urban, the past and the present, the internal and the external. They are rooted in the landscapes that shaped me and the ones I’ve chosen since. In each piece, I am exploring how identity grows in transition, how belonging can stretch across distance and how the places we leave continue to echo quietly in the places we build.

Ultimately, my work is an investigation of the in-between: the slow, cinematic unfolding of who we were into who we are becoming.

FAQ

How long have you been painting?

I fell in love with painting and creating when I was 11 years old and haven’t stopped since. My practice has been a place of expression for me since I can remember. Before I found painting, I was exploring other mediums. Art has been a constant.

What inspires you?

Much of my work begins with a moment: the glow of early morning, a color that forces a pause, a place that lingers with me long after I leave. My Midwestern roots taught me to see light as emotion and travel gives me new colors to chase. When something pulls at my heart, I follow it onto the canvas.

Do you take commissions?

Yes! Whether you’re looking for design work or a collection of paintings, I’m happy to explore different concepts with you to bring your vision to life.

How did you find your style?

Through my practice, I’ve learned that the process becomes your style and your style becomes your process. It wasn’t conscious. I just paint things in the light I see them and give all of myself to the process.
